Muriwai Beach Excursion

We went to Muriwai beach two days ago.  It takes about 45 min. from Devonport through green pastures, hills and pine tress.  We saw cows and horses and lots and lots of their staple animal:  sheep.
The beach was a black sand beach and Eric got to surf.  A bit big for me.  The sun is VERY strong here, so hats and sunscreen are a must.

This is the look that Nora has had for about a week.  She's not sure if she likes New Zealand yet!

Auckland's 175th Birthday

On Sunday Auckland celebrated its 175th Birthday with fireworks over Auckland bay.  The locals recommended we climb Mt. Victoria to watch the show from up high.  So around 8:30pm we headed up the mountain with our hot chocolate.  From above the views were absolutely breathtaking and the fire works show was fantastic! This was the first time the kids had ever seen fire works.

Extreme low tide

This is a beach that is just down the road from our 10 day rental. It is extremely effected by the tides. On high tide the water goes up to the edge of the houses. On low tide you have to walk for miles to reach the water's edge.
